When we moved into the house, all the walls and woodwork were an ivory color, even in the garage. I quickly got tired of looking at all these off-white walls, and finally had some painting done. This is my favorite. We had the dining room and foyer painted this very dark blue called Pacific Depth. That large blank wall has remained empty while I have searched for just the right thing to hang on it. I gave up the search, and am currently working on a large painting for that big blank wall.
We carried the dark blue over to the small section of wall where our TV hangs. The large section of wall space above the TV was completely blank. I still need more plates and maybe a small platter to fill in more of the blank space, but this will do for now.
In this photo, you can see into my French Country-inspired kitchen, but that’s for another post on another day. Many of the houses here are completely open between the living area and the kitchen. We had the builder add that small wall for a place to put the TV, and because having it allowed space for kitchen cabinets on the other side of it. The homes here are known for having too little storage space, and that cabinet gave us a bit more. Also, the wall hides the coffee maker, as well as any mess that may be near the kitchen sink when cooking a meal. I did not want that visible from the living and dining rooms.
I’ve been painting furniture, and that black chest under the TV is on my list to be painted. It was perfect for our very formal home in Charlotte, and it was fine in our less formal home in Denver, but in this very casual home, it just doesn’t fit. My plan is to paint it off-white, then wipe over it with a translucent brown glaze to give it that French Country look.
I’ve been scouring antique shops shops looking for blue and white plates and saucers, among other things. I found these at the Wildwood Antique Mall. I have made friends with one of the dealers there, Evelyne Moore, who keeps an eye out for things I can use, as she attends estate sales all over our area. Someday maybe I will have time to do that, too.
She was searching for a blue and white Chinese vase/bowl for my dining room table, but unfortunately, I bought one only a week before she found an antique one. That’s the one I bought holding the white hydrangeas in the top photo. I was bummed because, not only did I like the one she found better than the one I had bought, her’s was $20 and I had paid $30.
Evelyne’s business is called “Memory Lane Treasures”, and has just moved to aisle 3 at the antique mall. She has been such a big help to me. You can reach Evelyne at <orchid352@gmail.com>.
Stay tuned. More painted rooms and painted furniture are coming.
